Remember the golden rule

October 28, 2014

To the Editor,

Last week two Canadian soldiers were murdered in separate incidents by men who had converted to Islam. The murderers were not part of an organized plot, they were responding to a call by Islamic extremists to attack countries who were attacking them. The two individuals were both born in Canada, in Quebec in fact, and were from broken homes. Alienated from this society, they found answers in an insane ideology which promised them heaven in the hereafter, they had no fear and no qualms in what they did. Before his happened, where was the support they needed to help them out of their troubles?
In Cold Lake after these events, a Mosque was defaced with the words “Go Home”.
Later, many townspeople showed up to erase the graffiti amd had placards saying “You are home”. These were true Canadians who wanted to include eveyone despite their faith, who cared about their fellow citizens.
Remember, Canadian soldiers died fighting for diversity and choice, the very things extremists of all stripes hate. To label those two troubled individuals “terrorists” is to engage extremists on their own ground and reinforce their cause. The golden rule is NOT do unto others as they have done unto you but do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
