Jets win All-Ontario Championship

March 17, 2015

The Vito’s Pizzeria Peewee Jets were at home this weekend for games 3 and 4 of their all Ontario finals against the Twin Centre Stars.  The Jets won games one and two, so they were up 2 games to none in the series.

Saturday, March 14, was game three and the Jets hit the ice in front of an overwhelmingly large crowd.   As soon as the puck drop, it was clear it was going to be an exciting game.  Both teams came out firing, but with neither goalie giving up a goal, there was no score heading into the second.  Six minutes and forty seven seconds into the second, the Jets made the Stars pay for an infraction, as Brodie Cooney blasted a shot past the Stars goaltender during the power play, assisted by Jesse Mountney and Gage Green.  Before the end of the period, the Stars tied it up and the second ended 1-1.  With things all tied up, both teams battled it out in the third, but once again it was a battle of the goalies and despite multiple chances, it was still 1-1 after the third and it was off to overtime.  The Jets started off OT on the penalty kill and they did great to kill it off, but they soon found themselves shorthanded again and in the final thirty seconds of OT, the Stars had a two man advantage, but the Jets held them off and the game ended 1-1.  Great game by Andrew Miller, who played awesome between the pipes for the Jets.

After tying Saturday, it forced a game four, and Sunday, March 15, the Jets once again came out to a great hometown crowd.  Two and a half minutes into the first, Twin Centre scored.  The Jets were unable to answer back and it was 1-0 Stars after the first.  Just twelve seconds into the second, Twin Centre scored again.  Five minutes and twenty one seconds later, Ethan Woods put Bancroft on the scoreboard as he put one in the back of the net, assisted by Colson West.  The second ended 2-1 Stars.  Six minutes and sixteen seconds into the third, the Jets tied it up, as Mountney knocked one in, assisted by Jared McCaskie and Cooney.  The rest of the third was end to end hockey, but both teams held each other off, so it was off to overtime again.  With just 2:28 left in OT, the Stars took a penalty and ten seconds into it, Cooney fired one in top shelf and the Jets won the game, assisted by McCaskie and Mountney.

What an awesome way to finish off the season, winning the OMHA All Ontario “CC” Championship.  Great job by all the players and their coach, Tyler Howran, and the rest of the coaching staff.
