Bancroft will soon be abuzz with activity as Canada Day celebrations return to the municipality this July 1. There will be four main locations where revellers can paint themselves and the town red and white in honour of our nation. Millennium Park, Riverside Park, the Bancroft Train Station and the Bancroft Legion will all be busy with a wide variety of activities for proud Canadians of all ages. There will also be live music in Millennium Park, free face painting and vendors set up in the park until 6 p.m. There will be more fun and games at Riverside Park throughout the day such as a climbing wall, a giant slide and more. The Bancroft Legion will also be hosting a refreshment tent starting at 12 p.m. and an evening dance.
Councillor Tracy McGibbon has been working hard to make the event a success. Considering that this year is the 50th Anniversary of the Canadian Flag this year’s celebration is extra special, she said.
“For the first time ever we are launching fire works off the Station Street Bridge and we are very excited to be bringing the fireworks back to our down town area,” said McGibbon.
There are many benefits to the new location for Canada celebrations in Bancroft. McGibbon explained. Being central, the new location is easy to get to and easy to get away after.Having the fireworks downtown also will help keep everyone in town for the afternoon and evening.
“There are a lot of great viewing areas in the downtown area and it’s perfect for our Chateau and Brooks Centre residents who will have a great view without the travel out of town,” McGibbon said.
“It’s great for our families, great for our seniors, great for our businesses and great for our summer visitors and that’s what it’s about, a community celebration together.”
