Fallen police officer to be honoured at bridge dedication

A local bridge has been earmarked to be the memorial to a fallen Town of Bancroft Police Officer, who was killed in the line of duty in July of 1929 while serving the citizens of Bancroft.

As a gesture of respect, bridge dedications are intended to posthumously recognize police officers who have courageously and unselfishly given their lives in the line of duty to preserve our free and peaceful society.
Police Constable Thomas Kehoe was killed while on duty in July of 1929, when he was struck by a car on Hastings Street North, in the area of John Street, in the Town of Bancroft. He was investigating a liquor violation. The bridge honouring Constable Kehoe is the Station Street Bridge crossing the York River, in the Town of Bancroft.

The Dedication Ceremony will take place on July 25 at 2 p.m. at the Station Street Bridge. In the coming weeks, motorists may notice banners located on the bridge's streetlight standards memorializing Constable Kehoe. The dedication signs will be installed but will remain covered until after the ceremony.
