Re: Public docks in Baptiste Village

August 11, 2015

To the Editor,

Once again, in order to get some sleep, we’ve had to resort to turning on the electric fans and closing the windows to drown out the noise of the public docks on Baptiste Lake. So much for the quiet cottage dream of listening to the waves or the call of the loons. All we can hear at night is what sounds like heavy machinery at work.
When we sit on the verandah on a windy evening, we can’t hear ourselves speaking over the din. The waves pound on the dock sections and this creates a loud banging and crashing.
Last year I sent an email and made several phone calls to the Municipality of Hastings Highlands. After some time, I was told someone would come out and have a look at it. I followed up with a Mr. Davidson who said there was nothing more they could do. Our taxpayer dollars funded this project, to the tune of approximately $30,000.
I don’t know who built these docks, but it is obvious they didn’t know what they were doing. This needs to be rectified or money refunded.
We’ve been here 25 years. There have always been docks in that location, but never have they made this intolerable racket.
If, as I was told, nothing else can be done, we expect to receive a tax refund, as our quality of enjoyment of our property has suffered tremendously. And perhaps a rebate for the lack of garbage pick up can also be sent along.
