Bancroft schools placed under lockdown after report of man with a long-gun firearm in the area

September 30, 2015

At approximately 10 a.m. this morning (Sept. 30) the Bancroft Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police received a report of a man walking on Monck Street in the Town of Bancroft carrying, what appeared to be, a long-gun firearm. Due to the individual’s direction of travel towards North Hastings High School, police contacted the High School, as well as Our Lady of Mercy Elementary School and York River Public school, and requested that they implement their school safety protocols as a precaution, while police investigated.
Police searched the downtown Bancroft area, as well as conducted a perimeter search at each of the schools, and were unable to locate any evidence of any threat or suspect.
All safety protocols have been lifted from the schools.
