Bantam Jets up two games

January 26, 2016

The Bierworth Readi-Mix Bantam Jets started their second round of playoffs against the Frontenac Flyers this weekend. Saturday they hosted the Flyers for game one. It was an exciting first period and with a goal a piece, it was 1-1 heading into the second. Brett Cooney scored the goal for the Jets, assisted by Jack Kauffeldt. Just 24 seconds into the second, the Jets took the lead as Kauffeldt roofed the puck, assisted by Alana Jentas. Less than five minutes later, Brett Cooney won the face off over to Brodie Cooney, who riffled it in. Late in the period, a mishap by the Jets, cost them a goal after Frontenac got a breakaway. The Jets added one more before the end of the period, as Brett Cooney put one through the five hole during a power play, assisted by Jared McCaskie and Carter Thrower. It was 5-2 Jets after two. A flukey goal late in the third by the Flyers, was the only goal of the period and the Jets won the game 5-3.
Sunday the Jets were in Frontenac for game two. The Flyers opened up the scoring just fourteen seconds in, but the Jets answered back less than a minute later, thanks to a goal by Brett Cooney, assisted by Chris Poste and Easton Morrison. The Jets scored again before the end of the period, when Thrower shot from the point and Brett Cooney deflected it in, to make it 2-1 Jets. Fifty-seven seconds into the second, Thrower blasted a shot from the point through traffic and in, to give the Jets a two goal lead. A lead they were unable to maintain, as they gave up two goals and it was tied 3-3 heading into the third. The Jets had a power play to start the third, and they cashed in, as Kauffeldt put one top shelf, assisted by McCaskie and Brodie Cooney. The Jets kept up the pressure and at the halfway mark, Brodie Cooney found the top corner, assisted by Kauffeldt and Jesse Mountney. Kauffeldt finished off the Jets scoring with 2:16 left on the clock, assisted by Ben Gaebel and the Jets won 6-3.
Game three of the series is at home, Saturday, Jan. 30 at 6:15 and then back in Frontenac, Sun. Jan. 31 at 6:30 for game four.
