Bancroft police investigate fatal accident

Shortly before noon on May 14, police officers with the Bancroft Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision on Old Hastings Road in the Township of Wollaston.
Police and ambulance attended the scene, where a motorcycle had collided with a pick-up truck.  Police assisted with providing first aid and CPR to the single male rider of the motorcycle, who was non-responsive.
Robert James Harris, 49, of Sackville New Brunswick was declared deceased at the scene.
A Technical Traffic Collision Investigator with the OPP was called in to conduct further examination of the scene in conjunction with a coroner’s investigation.  Following the completion of that investigation, no charges were laid in relation to the incident.
Other calls: During the week of May 9, police officers with the Bancroft Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to 88 calls for service and laid eight criminal code charges in relation to four of those incidents. Officers also set up and conducted 11 RIDE programs on the roads of North Hastings over the past week.
During that same period, officers with the Bancroft OPP laid 21 provincial offence charges, including 10 charges for speeding, and four charges of persons failing to wear seatbelts.
