Bantam Jets finish off 2015 with two more wins

December 28, 2015

On Tuesday night the Bierworth Readi-Mix bantam Jets faced off against Centre Hastings. Halfway through the first, Brett Cooney got a breakaway and he put the puck in the net for a shorthanded goal, unassisted. It was the only goal of the period, so the Jets were up 1-0. A few minutes into the second, Centre Hastings tied it up, but less than a minute later, Brett Cooney regained the lead, assisted by Brodie Cooney and Jared McCaskie. With 3:50 left, Centre Hastings scored on the power play and it was tied at two after two. Just about six and a half minutes into the third, Brett Cooney completed his hat trick, as he put home his own rebound, unassisted. Then, with 1:42 left on the clock, Jesse Mountney knocked one in during a scramble in front of the net, assisted by Riley

Hunt and Riley Krieger. The Jets shut down Centre Hastings in the third, to win the game 4-2.

Friday night, it was the Jets vs Baltimore. Jack Kauffeldt put the Jets on the scoreboard, scoring the lone goal of the first, assisted by Mountney and Brodie Cooney. The Jets racked up the penalties in the second and Baltimore cashed in, scoring two power play goals. With just 55 seconds left in the period, Brodie Cooney put in a rebound to tie the game 2-2 heading into the third, assisted by McCaskie and Brett Cooney. The third was end to end hockey, but it wasn’t until late in the period when Chris Poste backhanded in the go ahead goal, unassisted. With just three seconds left on the clock, Krieger finished it up with an empty netter, unassisted. The Jets won 4-2.

The Jets have a break over the holidays, but return to the ice for their final two regular season games on Saturday, Jan. 2 at 6 p.m. at home vs Tweed and on Sunday, Jan. 3 in Campbellford at 1:30.
