Ice climbers to scale frozen waterfalls You've seen them all winter long on Eagle's Nest. Now is your chance to see them up close at Diamond Lake, south of Combermere. Beginners and experienced climbers alike, from far and near, will celebrate the joys of climbing frozen waterfalls on Saturday, Feb. 27 and Sunday, Feb. 28. Did you know the greater Bancroft area is extensively featured in the Southern Ontario Ice Climbing Guidebook? That's right! It's the focal point for ice climbing, and Eagle's Nest right in town is known for its wide variety of routes, consistent ice formation and ease of access. The Southern Ontario Ice Climbing Festival (www.SOIceFest.com) is a volunteer-organized, not-for-profit initiative with two major goals: to connect and grow the southern Ontario climbing community; and to give back to the local communities in the greater Bancroft area. This year, they're working with TROUT to highlight the services they provide to the residents of Bancroft and surrounding regions. Through our raffle and silent auction, they're looking to collect proceeds which will support the transportation service, which keeps the community connected. There will be clinics available for those who registered in advance. Also present will be industry representatives, professional athletes and vendors who will be happy to answer that ever-popular question: “Why?” Hot chocolate, Madawaska's Coffee and chili will be available to help fuel the discussions and keep everyone warm.
