Laughs to come at Playhouse

July 29, 2016

UPDATE: Matt Baram and Naomi Snieckus will only visit the Playhouse on Aug. 6 due to Baram’s busy schedule. They will donate the fee for their show to the Hospice North Hastings.

Comedy is big this summer at the Bancroft Village Playhouse and for those who enjoy laughing until the tears roll, Matt Baram and Naomi Snieckus will demand you pack pockets full of tissues when they bring their National Theatre of the World improv, sketch and stand-up comedy show to town on Aug. 6.

A married couple in real life, these two comedy greats met while working at The Second City. Matt Baram has had a long list of TV and film jobs and Naomi Snieckus has been in a ridiculous amount of commercials, television shows and films. She is immediately recognizable as that woman who was in that thing that you saw that one time and they’ve both won awards for their work in comedy.

The Toronto Star’s Richard Ouzounian says Baram and Snieckus are as much fun as you can have without taking your clothes off so Playhouse audiences are reminded to keep buttons buttoned and their shoes on their feet for these two splendid evenings of quick-witted tom foolery.

“Comedy is a big hit for us this summer,” says Hospice North Hastings co-ordinator and Playhouse manager, Heather Brough. “It’s amazing when you think that part of these shows will be made up on the spot. These two are just incredibly quick with their punchlines and we’re really happy to have them coming to our theatre.”

The two-night comedy gig was a challenge to book thanks to Snieckus’ busy schedule.  She’ll will be flying in for the two nights from Halifax where she is madly shooting the new season of the CBC hit series, Mr. D.

With all funds from the shows supporting the free programs and services provided by Hospice North Hastings in our community, these great nights of comedy remind all of us to take the time to laugh.

“There’s nothing more rewarding than listening to the laughter in this theatre,” says Heather Brough. “I think we’ve found that people want to forget their troubles and just get out for a great night of comedy. It’s a perfect match for Hospice.”

National Theatre of the World starring Matt Baram and Naomi Snieckus is at the Bancroft Village Playhouse on Aug. 5 and 6. Tickets are on sale now at Harvest Moon, Posies, Hospice House and online at boxofficebancroft.com. Playhouse productions proudly support the caring through culture movement that is growing in Bancroft.
