We do not know the cause of the fire as yet. Starting Oct. 13, you can attend the lower auditorium space at the Professional Building of the Hastings Centennial Manor to reach our staff. Staff will be there on rotation. VON adult day program will be running from the same temporary location. You will need to knock on the window there to alert staff to let you in the building. Also the entire parking lot is being prepped for paving at the manor so be prepared for delays getting to park. We are navigating this fire and restoration. The process will be slow we are told. We will need drywall, ceiling tiles and all carpets replaced. Desks and computers. Everything you can imagine has been affected. Every item in our office needs to be wiped down and placed in a clean area. This will take its time, and we are at the mercy of insurance and restoration companies. We have been treated very well so far and we are grateful. We have only cancelled two hot meal runs to date and will be back to full operation on [Oct. 12]. All our Meals on Wheels on site need to be replaced. Many people are asking how they can help and want to contribute somehow. If you choose, you can send a senior a meal for a contribution of $7. Please e-transfer to jkauffeldt@carenh.org. This will go toward building our meals on wheels stock immediately. Our insurance deductible is $2,500.00 these are items not in our operating budget, so any contribution is very much appreciated. We can issue a tax receipt for any donation. Thank you to our community for offering to help and genuinely caring about those we care for,” they said in their posting.  A volunteer-based, registered charity, Care NH is committed to offering programs and services to seniors 55 years of age and older and adults over the age of 18 years with a disability. Through care and support, their services assist individuals with independent living by providing reliable support systems and relevant programs to cope with life transitions. They help those in North Hastings, Highlands East and the District of Nipissing. Pat Hoover, fire chief and CEMC with the Bancroft Fire Department, told The Bancroft Times on Oct. 6 that they're currently still working with investigators to confirm the cause of the fire.  “There is a process to it and it isn't always the fastest, as there are many moving pieces to ensure all parties involved from ownership to insurance are lined up,” he says. “Once we know, we will provide an update.” --------------------------------------------------- Images: --------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------- Post date: 2026-10-23 10:00:00 Post date GMT: 2026-10-23 14:00:00 Post modified date: 2026-10-16 11:38:56 Post modified date GMT: 2026-10-16 15:38:56 ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Export of Post and Page as text file has been powered by [ Universal Post Manager ] plugin from www.gconverters.co
