The Good Food Market has arrived in Bancroft.

What is a Good Food Market? It is a market that sells fresh high quality fruits and vegetables at a low cost. The program coordinator is Jim Mallabar.

The program is offered by the Community Development Council of Quinte. The organization is in its 26th year. The CDC-Quinte has offered the Good Food Box and the Good Baby Box for a number of years in Bancroft.

Currently the CDC has a partnership with the North Hastings Community Cupboard Food Bank to offer these programs.

The Good Food Market started in July in Coe Hill as a pilot project.

Due to the high number of residents attending, the CDC secured funding from Hastings County to offer the Good Food Market to Bancroft, Madoc, Marmora, Frankford, Deseronto and Belleville.

Some of the fresh produce offered are potatoes, onions, celery, cucumber, green onions, apples, oranges, carrots, broccoli, lettuce, tomatoes, bananas and kiwi.

The market runs the first Thursday every month from 10 a.m. to noon, year round.

Through a partnership with the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-day Saints, the market is located at 53 Hastings Street North (across from the Scotia Bank).

The market offers all residents of Bancroft and surrounding area, regardless of income, the opportunity to purchase produce at a low cost. The CDC is able to purchase from a wholesaler that also supplies supermarkets and restaurants.

Through its funding from Hastings County, the CDC-Quinte is able to pass on the savings directly without any markup to residents.
