Lent is a 40 day journey to Jerusalem. It parallels Christ’s journey of temptation in the wilderness, and Moses’ and the Israelite’s flight out of Egypt on their way to the Promised Land. For centuries Christians have set aside these days to reflect intentionally on their lives, and to develop certain practices that would cultivate faith, like fasting, or giving to those in need.

An independent film company will be shooting a film in Bancroft for 16 days during March, and possibly a few days in April or May. It could feature Bancroftians too.
North Hastings has been abuzz with talk that the OPP is reviewing an amalgamation opportunity between its Bancroft and Madoc detachments, but a spokesperson for the OPP Eastern Regional Headquarters maintains amalgamation is “not on the table.”
Bancroft’s wastewater plant has received a clean bill of heath with regards to its operation after the first phase of the town’s composite correction program.
While I hold to wolves will be wolves as it were — food is scarce in the winter. Animals might be prone to come a little further out of the woods to sustain themselves. It might be time to discuss wolf/coyote safety.

I am writing in response to the letter to the editor in the Jan. 12, 2018 edition of Bancroft This Week entitled “The great water and sewer debate.” I felt the need to clarify the County of Hastings’s roles and responsibilities as they pertain to municipal services.
Here at the Bancroft This Week office everyone has a hockey history. Our graphic designer Alex Banelopoulos plays on both a competitive and beer league team. In our ads department both Melissa Armstrong and Tim Jenkins are hockey parents. I played from eight to 18 — I miss it dearly.
