It was still not under control as of Oct. 18, according to Alison Lake, Fire Information Officer, Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services with the MNRF. However, by Oct. 22, the fire had been brought under control and the MNRF was conducting mop up operations, according to Evan Lizotte, fire information officer with the MNRF. Lake told The Bancroft Times on Oct. 18 that the wildfire designated HAL051 was 10.8 hectares and was located approximately two kilometres northeast of Dafoe Lake. She said at that point it was not under control and that two crews of Ontario Fire Rangers were fighting the fire with support of aerial suppression from a helicopter equipped with a belly tank and that they were making good progress as they worked to establish a hose line and pump perimeter on the fire. “They are actively suppressing the fire as they work to complete the hose line,” she said at that time. Lake said that the results of the investigation into the cause of the fire were not yet available at that point. A subsequent query to the MNRF as to the cause of the fire on Oct. 27 revealed that it was still under investigation. Lake said that the local municipal fire department had been apprised of the situation back on Oct. 18, which was confirmed by Limerick Township Fire Chief Greg Maxwell, whose township provides structural fire services to Tudor and Cashel. A query to the Madoc Fire Department, which also provides structural fire services to Tudor and Cashel, was not returned by press time. MNRF Fire Information Officer Evan Lizotte provided the following update on the fire to Bancroft This Week on Oct. 27, reiterating that HAL051 was 10.8 hectares and was located approximately two kilometres northeast of Dafoe Lake. “We have a crew performing mop-up operations, which is the act of extinguishing a fire after it has been deemed under control by identifying and putting out any hotspots within the perimeter,” he says. “This fire is under control as of October 22.” --------------------------------------------------- Images: --------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------- Post date: 2025-11-04 15:38:12 Post date GMT: 2025-11-04 20:38:12 Post modified date: 2025-11-04 15:38:15 Post modified date GMT: 2025-11-04 20:38:15 ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Export of Post and Page as text file has been powered by [ Universal Post Manager ] plugin from www.gconverters.com
