It appears that interest in the business of Wollaston Township council is at a fever pitch this election year with no less than eleven residents filing for one of the three councillor positions by Friday Sep.12, the final day to enter the race. Ten new hopefuls have joined Rebecca Smith, the only incumbent councillor running for council positions: Larry Legault, Bev Lepinski, Reginald Corey, Denise Hohn, Dave Naulls, Lee-Ann King, Jim Alexander, Michael Fuerth, Bob Ireland, and Lynn Kruger.

Current councillor Maryann Post, and current Deputy Reeve Graham Blair have both taken on the current Reeve Dan McCaw it what might turn out to be a very interesting three way race for the top spot. As the only candidate filing to run for deputy reeve, Marilyn Brickles will be acclaimed to that position.

In the two neighboring municipalities in the south end of North Hastings, horse races are shaping up as well.

Following the retirement this year of two-term Township of Limerick Reeve David Golem, current councillor Sharon Carson will be running against Tim Reid in a two-way race for the reeve position. Six residents will be running to fill the four councillor positions, including current Councillors Andar Kauffeldt and Bonnie Weise as well as newcomers Susan Empson, Mike Douglas-Hecker, Zane Plumbe, and John Taylor.

Further to the east and south, there is a race for the reeve’s position in the Township of Tudor and Cashel between the incumbent Reeve Wanda Donaldson, and Tom Forsythe. The three current Councillors: Irene Martin, Libby Clarke and Gerry Phillips will be running again, as well as two newcomers Noreen Reilly and Duane A. Burkitt. Deputy Reeve Boyde Walker will be acclaimed.

Municipal elections will be held in Ontario on Monday, Oct 27.
