Atom Jets in it to win it

December 28, 2015

The Bancroft Auto Body atom Jets took to the ice for their last game before the holidays on Saturday, Dec. 19 against the Centre Hastings Grizzlies. The Jets had faced them once earlier in the season in a tournament and were defeated by the Grizzlies. It only took 14 seconds for the Jets to make a statement that they were in it to win it Saturday with a quick goal by James Armstrong assisted by Jake Coulas.

The Grizzlies didn’t take long to respond and added one to tie the game up. Before the first period was over Brady Hunt found the back of the net assisted by Justin Toupin to regain the lead going into the second period. With the short break between the first and the second periods to clean the ice the Jets fired themselves up to come out just as strong as they had started. James started the second just as he did the first with a beautiful goal unassisted to add to the lead. Shortly after Ethan Wilkes continued the scoring spree assisted by James. The Grizzlies answered back with a goal of their own closing the gap to 4-2. With a few minutes left in the second Hunt fired one by the goalie for his second of the game.

With the third period starting at 5-2 for the Jets, the coaches and parents were getting excited with the great game being played in front of them. The Grizzlies were not rolling over and making it easy on the Jets. Halfway through the third period they scored another goal to make it a 5-3 game with eight minutes left. The Jets answered back with a great play scored by Toupin, assisted by Dylan Brownlee and James.

Before the game ended Peyton Armstrong tipped one in from a shot from James. The Grizzlies potted one more leaving the final score 7-4 and the Jets raising their sticks to the crowd with their first win of the season. It was a game that saw all players on the ice contribute to the final score and some great goaltending from Cameron Wood to keep the Jets in the game. A great Christmas present to all the coaches, parents and players that day.
