North Hastings High School principal Ken Dostaler thanks Bancroft Lions President Bryan Adams for the club’s donation to the ACT training program.  The club donated $1,750 over the past two years to cover the costs of the training  resources and equipment  needed to ensure that every student knows basic CPR, including how to operate a defibrillator.  To date, twelve teachers have received this training, and the basics are now part of the “Healthy Active Living” course taken by every grade 9 student.  Additional training is taken by co-op students and members of outdoor and environmental studies courses.  This has been “a tremendous contribution to school health and safety”, according to principal Dostaler.  “You don’t need it a lot, but it has to be there where an emergency arises”, he said, noting that the high school in Moira had to employ their defibrillator already during the first week of school.   Both principal Dostaler and president Adams observed that the training also benefitted the community.

“The training means that these students can now handle emergencies which may occur at home, or in a public place like the arena,” Adams said; “so our club was very pleased to be able to help.”
