The Bierworth Readi-Mix Bantam Jets continued their quarterfinals this weekend against Campbellford. Saturday, they were at home for Game 2. Late in the first, the Jets gave up a shorthanded goal and things went downhill from there. Campbellford added another before the end of the first to make it 2-0 and after a scoreless second, it was still 2-0. Campbellford scored early in the third and again late in the period, to win the game 4-0. This was the Jets first loss since Dec. 9, breaking their fourteen game winning streak.
Sunday, they were down in Campbellford for Game 3. The Jets came out strong and it was clear right off the start it was going to be a much different game then the day before. The first period was packed full of excitement, with some big hits, great scoring chances and impressive goaltending, but it remained 0-0 heading into the second. Four minutes and 45 seconds in, Campbellford put one in the net. The Jets battled back hard and with just eight seconds left in the period, Brodie Cooney put home his own rebound to tie the game, assisted by Jack Kauffeldt. The Jets took the lead a minute and 21 seconds into the third, when Brodie Cooney banged one in during a scramble, assisted by Carter Thrower and Jesse Mountney. At the halfway mark of the period, Riley Krieger knocked in a rebound, assisted by Ben Gaebel and Easton Morrison. Less than two minutes later, Campbellford answered back to cut the Jets lead back down to one, but with 4:03 left, Brodie Cooney wrapped up his hat trick and put the Jets up again by two, unassisted. With a minute and a half left in the period, the Jets took a penalty, Campbellford pulled their goalie and with the extra attackers, Campbellford scored. With the Jets back to even strength, Campbellford still had their goalie pulled and with the Jets unable to clear the puck, Campbellford scored to tie the game, with 29 seconds left. It was 4-4 after regulation, so it was off to overtime. Just over six minutes into OT, Brett Cooney got a breakaway, he was pulled down, but still managed to put the puck in the net, the Jets were celebrating and after everyone thought the game was over, the refs called it no goal. A devastating blow to the Jets and with 1:47 left, Campbellford scored to win the game 5-4.
