Maynooth was abuzz with activity all Labour Day weekend long for the annual Maynooth Madness celebration held Friday, Sept. 4 through Sunday, Sept. 6.
Residents and visitors took advantage of the perfect weather walking from one activity to the next to enjoy a little family fun in the sun on the last weekend of the Summer holiday. The festivities began early Friday evening at the Old Community Centre in Maynooth with the Horticultural Fall Fair. The crowd then shifted over to The Arlington for the Maynooth’s Got Talent contest, followed by a performance of the Celtic band Tara! Continuing the “Madness” early the next morning, many made their way over to the ANAF Barn for the ever-popular pancake breakfast. With empty bellies now full, people lined the Main Street to await The Madness Parade.
The Highland Heavies once again drew a large audience over to Logger’s Field for their competition on Saturday as well, holding a variety of traditional athletic challenges. The Maynooth Farmers’ Market was also a “hotspot” providing guests with a unique one-of-a-kind shopping experience where they could buy locallly grown vegetable, homemade desserts, preserves, arts and crafts. Local bluesband Salty Dog closed out Saturday’s festivities with a performance at The Arlington, getting everyone ready for the 10th Annual Mud Dawgs Mud Run on Sunday.
