The MPP from Prince Edward-Hastings has some new duties on his plate at Queen’s Park. This week, PC Leader Patrick Brown added the Natural Resources and Forestry portfolio to Todd Smith’s list of responsibilities, which already include his Caucus’ response to the government’s Hydro One sale.
North Hastings Women in Business, an initiative of Bancroft Community Transit’s Heart of the Park and Community Futures, attracted a good crowd of entrepreneurs at its recent monthly lunch on April 19.
Wollaston Township council had good news on at least two fronts at their July 8 regular meeting. The chief building officer (CBO) report for the month contained very positive development numbers including 37 building permits having been issued or in progress for this year.
This week, current and past Northern Environmental Research (NERD) students, as well as graduates of NHHS’s Northern Outdoor Studies (NOS) program, gathered at the Faraday Community Centre to answer a challenge from North Hastings Community Trust.
Bancroft town council, at its meeting last week, considered a draft bylaw that would have restricted the number of garage sales in the municipality, and required the purchase of a $10 license for every sale held.
“I am very proud of our little volunteer fire department,” said Limerick Township Deputy Reeve Sharon Carson. She is particularly proud of the department’s “Youth Firefighter” program, now into its third year. “Jason Post, our fire chief, does a fantastic job,” she said. “And all young people are welcome to participate. We have young people not just from our township, but from Bancroft, Wollaston, and Tudor and Cashel as well.”
Cultural narratives continue to be a theme of the arts community, as the “Tales Told Through Quilts” exhibition gets underway at the South of 60 Arts Centre and at the Madawaska Library in Barry’s Bay.
